William M. (Mann) Kennedy, 61, of 381 W. First St., died Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Hospital.
Mr. Kennedy was born Aug. 15, 1907, in Galesburg. A graduate of Corpus Christi High School, he attended Lombard College and Browns Business College and was a self-employed grocer for 35 years. He later was a drivers license examiner for the office of the secretary of state. He had been on the Knox County sheriff's staff for the past two years and was a past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus.
He married Gertrude M. Malley at Corpus Christi Church Aug. 6, 1930.
She survives with two sons, Robert, Aurora, and Paul, Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. Jean L. Berchtold, Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Rita G. Ryan, West Des Moines, Iowa, and Miss Virginia R. Kennedy, Quincy; one brother, Rev. Lyle Kennedy, St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Soukey, Galesburg, and 14 grandchildren.
Funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends may call at the Foley Mortuary Sunday afternoon and evening. The Kennedy family will be at the mortuary Sunday from 7-9 p.m. Prayers will be said Sunday at 8 p.m. The family requested that memorials be made to any of the three Catholic churches in the city or to Costa Catholic School.
