"Funeral services for Sylvia Petrik, 96, Sidney, are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Faith Alliance Church in Sidney with Pastor Paul Turek officiating. Interment will be in the Sidney Cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Sylvia Hazel Petrik was born in Long Beach, Calif., on Oct. 12, 1913, to parents William Hull and Leonora Butka Hull. She had one brother and six sisters. About 1922, the family moved to Montana to manage her maternal grandparents farm 43 miles west of Sidney. She loved the farm and working the land. She and her sister Gertrude became excellent in horsemanship.
Sylvia attended Lambert High School for two years, then moved to Sidney to live with her married sister Florence and graduated from Sidney High School. In 1933, she married her sweetheart and neighbor, Bill Petrik, and was able to continue her love of farming and the outdoors. She and Bill had two children, Darlene and Robert.
She definitely had a green thumb. Their dryland home 40 miles west of Sidney was quite an oasis of flowers, trees and lawn. She enjoyed the time spent driving tractors or trucks alongside Bill. She somehow found time for the kitchen and was known for her baking, cooking and great hospitality.
In 1972, Sylvia and Bill sold their farm and bought a home on the outskirts of St. Cloud, Minn. After 17 years in St. Cloud, they sold their home and moved to Sidney so she could help care for her brother, Gerald, until his death. In 1991, Bill had a heart attack and went home to be with the Lord.
In their retirement years, they traveled extensively and visited all the states except Hawaii and Alaska. Their most memorable trip was touring Israel.
Sylvia is best known for her love for the Lord and His Word. Her love for people, her generosity and her hospitality were outstanding qualities of her life. Sylvia's purpose and motivation is beautifully expressed in this note found written in her journals:
"There is nothing I have shared and lovingly given that is lasting, but perhaps a reminder to all the children that each of them were always in my heart and thoughts and prayers. One thing more I wish I could give them and that's a deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ. For Jesus has indeed made us rich with the life of eternity with God - all else is poverty indeed."
Sylvia died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care facility.
Sylvia is survived by two children, Darlene (David) Thiessen, St. Cloud, and Robert (Kay) Petrik, Baker City, Ore.; one sister, Judy Fridley, Lake Mary, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Deb (Jon) Crabtree, Casper, Wyo., Kathy (Roger) Gillson, St. Cloud, David W. (Kathy) Thiessen, Germantown, Tenn., Kerri (Duane) Olson, Elida, Ohio, Jerry (Tammy) Thiessen, Allen, Texas, Ryan (Jennie) Petrik, Spokane, Wash., and Rodger (Lindy) Petrik, Baker City; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, her brother, Gerald, her sisters Joyce, Florence, Gertrude, Jessie, and Jean, her granddaughter Robin Petrik and great-grandson Joseph Thiessen."

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, grandmother, greatgrandmother and great great grandmother. She was a wonderful person and i am grateful that I was able to help take care of her while she lived at the Lodge. Sylvia had a huge heart and was always wanting to visit and cared about us too. "Funeral services for Sylvia Petrik, 96, Sidney, are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Faith Alliance Church in Sidney with Pastor Paul Turek officiating. Interment will be in the Sidney Cemetery under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.
Sylvia Hazel Petrik was born in Long Beach, Calif., on Oct. 12, 1913, to parents William Hull and Leonora Butka Hull. She had one brother and six sisters. About 1922, the family moved to Montana to manage her maternal grandparents farm 43 miles west of Sidney. She loved the farm and working the land. She and her sister Gertrude became excellent in horsemanship.
Sylvia attended Lambert High School for two years, then moved to Sidney to live with her married sister Florence and graduated from Sidney High School. In 1933, she married her sweetheart and neighbor, Bill Petrik, and was able to continue her love of farming and the outdoors. She and Bill had two children, Darlene and Robert.
She definitely had a green thumb. Their dryland home 40 miles west of Sidney was quite an oasis of flowers, trees and lawn. She enjoyed the time spent driving tractors or trucks alongside Bill. She somehow found time for the kitchen and was known for her baking, cooking and great hospitality.
In 1972, Sylvia and Bill sold their farm and bought a home on the outskirts of St. Cloud, Minn. After 17 years in St. Cloud, they sold their home and moved to Sidney so she could help care for her brother, Gerald, until his death. In 1991, Bill had a heart attack and went home to be with the Lord.
In their retirement years, they traveled extensively and visited all the states except Hawaii and Alaska. Their most memorable trip was touring Israel.
Sylvia is best known for her love for the Lord and His Word. Her love for people, her generosity and her hospitality were outstanding qualities of her life. Sylvia's purpose and motivation is beautifully expressed in this note found written in her journals:
"There is nothing I have shared and lovingly given that is lasting, but perhaps a reminder to all the children that each of them were always in my heart and thoughts and prayers. One thing more I wish I could give them and that's a deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ. For Jesus has indeed made us rich with the life of eternity with God - all else is poverty indeed."
Sylvia died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care facility.
Sylvia is survived by two children, Darlene (David) Thiessen, St. Cloud, and Robert (Kay) Petrik, Baker City, Ore.; one sister, Judy Fridley, Lake Mary, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Deb (Jon) Crabtree, Casper, Wyo., Kathy (Roger) Gillson, St. Cloud, David W. (Kathy) Thiessen, Germantown, Tenn., Kerri (Duane) Olson, Elida, Ohio, Jerry (Tammy) Thiessen, Allen, Texas, Ryan (Jennie) Petrik, Spokane, Wash., and Rodger (Lindy) Petrik, Baker City; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, her brother, Gerald, her sisters Joyce, Florence, Gertrude, Jessie, and Jean, her granddaughter Robin Petrik and great-grandson Joseph Thiessen."

Dear Darlene, David and family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, grandmother, greatgrandmother and great great grandmother. She was a wonderful person and i am grateful that I was able to help take care of her while she lived at the Lodge. Sylvia had a huge heart and was always wanting to visit and cared about us too. In their retirement years, they traveled extensively and visited all the states except Hawaii and Alaska. Their most memorable trip was touring Israel.
Sylvia is best known for her love for the Lord and His Word. Her love for people, her generosity and her hospitality were outstanding qualities of her life. Sylvia's purpose and motivation is beautifully expressed in this note found written in her journals:

"Sylvia Hazel Petrik was born in Long Beach, CA on October 12, 1913 to parents William Hull and Leonora Butka Hull. She had one brother and six sisters. About 1922 the family moved to Montana to manage her maternal grandparents farm 43 miles west of Sidney. She loved the farm and working the land. She and her sister, Gertrude, became excellent in horsemanship.
She attended Lambert High School for two years, then moved to Sidney to live with her married sister, Florence, and graduated from Sidney High School. In 1933 she married her sweetheart and neighbor, Bill Petrik, and was able to continue her love of farming and the outdoors. She and Bill had two children, Darlene and Robert.

Funeral services for Sylvia Petrik, 96 of Sidney are at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010, at the Faith Alliance Church in Sidney.
Cemetery
Interment will be the Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, MT under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney.

Dear Darlene, David and family,
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, grandmother, greatgrandmother and great great grandmother. She was a wonderful person and i am grateful that I was able to help take care of her while she lived at the Lodge. Sylvia had a huge heart and was always wanting to visit and cared about us too.
