Joe had been living with the family of his half brother Will Kirk at Burke, Texas when he became ill with an ear infection. He returned to his mother's in Trinity County, may have actually been living in the home of his step-brother John Fox in Groveton when he became more seriously ill with mastiditis and pneumonia. He died in Lufkin, Texas. Joe was cheerful and loving, enjoyed by all of his siblings, parents and other family members and friends. He was sorely missed by all. His full name may have been Joseph but he was always called Joe.
