Jesse Barr was born Dec. 27, 1853 in Effingham Co. and departed this life at his home in Beecher City at 11:30 P M, May 23, 1924, aged 70 years, 4 mo. 26 days.
He was the son of William S. and Susan Barr. He was married to Laura M. Gordon, Sept. 23, 1879 and to this union 11 children were born. Four preceded him in death. The widow and 7 children survive, namely, Merna Durbin of near St. Elmo, James Barr of Beecher City, Edna Anderson of Mattoon, Doll Grubaugh of Beecher City, Harry Barr of Westervelt, Asa Barr of Bement and Noah Barr of Beecher City; also 28 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Daniel of Beecher City and Wm. Barr of Bement and 2 sisters, Margaret Burris of Beecher City and Sarah Wilkins of Spirit Lake, Iowa, besides a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Christian Church by Rev. A. E. Kretzer. Interment was made in the Beecher City cemetery.
