Alfred W. Dunican
The funeral of Alfred W. Dunican, 62, native of Bennington, and former manager of the state Fish Hatchery in Bennington, will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at the chapel of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home by the Rev. Floyd I. La Bombard, pastor of the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Dunican, resident of the Catamount Trailer Park, died unexpectedly Sunday at Putnam Memorial Hospital.
He retired in 1968 after 22 years service with the hatchery and it was he who raised the first albino trout, which was later mounted and presented to him.
Born Nov 1, 1913 to Hollis and Nellie (Bent) Dunican, he received his education in the local schools and in his earlier years was employed by the Roxbury fish hatchery. He belonged to Mt. Anthony lodge, F&AM, and Mt. Anthony chapter 1, OES. His first wife, the former Carolyn Green, whom he married in 1936 in Bennington, died in 1971, and he married the former Mabel King last July 10.
Besides his widow he leaves two sons, William of Bennington and Carroll of Northfield, two step sons, Chester and Anthony Parker, both of Bennington; 13 grandchildren; six sisters, Mary Fox of Providence, R.I., Blanche Strohmaier, Pauline Pettibone and Jenny Strohmaier, all of Pownal; Margaret Grzanowicz of Utica, N.Y., and Virginia Frye of Pittsfield, Mass., nieces and nephews.
The family will be in attendance at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The OES will meet at the funeral home at 7:30, and the F&AM at 8 pm tonight. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad.
Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery.
