John Hummer died at his home, about one and one half miles from New Riegel, Sunday night, June 11, 1899, of paralysis. John Hummer was about 50 years. Death was sudden and unexpected. A wife and seven children survive. (Tiffin Daily Tribune, June 11, 1899)

John Hummer, a well known resident of Seneca Township, died, after an hour's illness, at his home, at 3 o'clock Monday morning. The deceased was aged about 50 years and leaves a widow and seven children. (Seneca Advertiser, 6/13/1899 8:3)

John B. Hummer was baptized in St. Boniface Church; his godparents were Johan Hummer, Godfather and Barb Huber, Godmother. After the death of his mother in 1868 (his father had died much earlier) John was appointed the ward of John Hummer, his older brother, on January 1, 1869. John B. later became a farmer and also worked as a plasterer for a living. He married Catherine Hepp (Hoepf) in St. Boniface Church, New Riegel, Ohio. They became the parents of 7 children. He died of Paralysis (Stroke) at his home which was about 1 1/2 miles from New Riegel. He was about 48 years of age when he died. He is buried in St. Boniface Cemetery with his wife in the southeast corner, plots #N-6-8.
