She was 94 years old. She passed away to be with our Lord at her home in Lordsburg, New Mexico, March 19, 2011. She was born August 18, 1916, in Queen City, Texas, to Jackson A. and Fannye Stevens. She grew up and attended school in Marshall, Texas.
She is survived by four sons, Billy Otis of Lordsburg, N.M., Jack and wife Chris Otis of Surfside, S.C., George and wife Bertha Otis of Chula Vista, Calif., and Mike and wife June Renfroe of Longview, Texas; one daughter, Carol and husband Don Smith of Bull Head City, Ariz.; three sisters, Dr. Janelle Sloane of Nacogdoches, Texas, Doris and husband Dick Lee of Tyler, Texas, and Shirley and husband Delbert Sivert of La Plata, Mo.; one brother, Carnes and wife Betty Alexander of Longview, Texas; 20 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and relatives.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Harrell A. Renfroe; parents, Jackson Stevens and Fannye Alexander; three sisters, Libby Wernmark, Georgie VanSickle and Pauline Cousins; four brothers, Jack Stevens, Joe Alexander, Glenn Alexander and Harold Alexander; one daughter-in-law, Maureen Otis; two daughters, Sherry Powell and Martha Coach; and one son, Charles Otis Jr.
She moved to Lordsburg, N.M., in 1994. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed being part of the senior citizens center. She also served as "Grandparent" to students at Southside School. In her lifetime, prior to moving to Lordsburg, she operated three cafes, and owned a daycare center in Hallsville, Texas, for many years.
Memorial services are to be conducted in Lordsburg, N.M. Also in Harleton, Texas, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2011, with burial in Piney Cemetery. Arrangements for cremation have been made at Baca's Funeral Home in Lordsburg, N.M.
