Funeral service for Dr. Janelle A. Sloane, 90, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, with Pastor Emeritus Dr. Allen Reed officiating. Graveside will be held at 10:00 AM on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mooringsport, Louisiana.

Dr. Sloane passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 in Nacogdoches. She was born on May 4, 1929 in Marshall, Texas, the daughter of George and Fannye Alexander.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches.

Janelle married Edward Sloane on July 2, 1948 in Austin, Texas.

She attended Jefferson High School, where she was Valedictorian. She studied at the University of Texas and received her bachelor’s degree from Lamar Tech in Beaumont. She then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, where she received her Medical Degree in 1961.

Following completion of an Internship and Pathology Residency, she was Assistant Professor of Surgical Pathology at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston until 1970. She moved to Oklahoma City, and from 1971-1995 she performed general and surgical pathology at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was a member of American Society of Surgical Pathologists, AMA, and Oklahoma Medical Association.

She was a member of Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City for over 32 years, and First Baptist Church, Nacogdoches since 2004. She was a Sunday School teacher, department leader, member of the prayer ministry and choir member. In her eighties, she went on mission trips to Peru and Ecuador.

She is survived by her daughters, Beren Sloane Cranford and husband, Roger of Garrison; Javonne Sloane Gilmore and husband, Hugh of Austin; Martha Sloane McCarthy of North Huntingdon, PA; and Marsha Sloane Frye and husband, Bill of North Huntingdon, PA. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren; sisters Doris Lee and husband, Dick of Tyler; Shirley Sivert and husband, Delbert of La Plata, MO.

She was preceded in death by parents, George and Fannye Alexander, husband Edward M. Sloane, five brothers and four sisters and grandson, Geoffrey Mueller.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bryan McCarthy, Philip Mueller, Dale McCarthy, Jerry Stokes, Kevin Fuller, Marc Cranford, Bert Murillo, Eli Frye. Honorary pallbearer will be Matt Gilmore.
