Mahulda (Huldah; Huldy) Hiatt Garvin was born August 19, 1854 in Fleming County, Kentucky, USA. Her parents were Josiah Hiatt (1825 – 1879) and Charlotte Gregory (1825 – 1875).
In 1875 Huldy married William Wallace Garvin (1845-1810). Theirs was a happy marriage until Huldy died February 14, 1884 from complications of giving birth to their son William Garvin, born February 6, 1884. Huldy is buried at Patton Cemetery, Soldier, Carter County, Kentucky. Lying in a grave site next to her grave is infant William, who died March 9, 1884.. Baby William survived his mom by less than one month.
Annie Bell Ham (1861-1955), who in 1889 married Wallace, told their grand-daughter Mary Frances (Cherie J.) about Huldah's dying from complications of childbirth.
Annie Bell and Wallace's daughter Mary Vie Garvin Ferguson told Cherie J. that when Huldy died, Wallace was heart-broken. He had loved Huldah so dearly. For the next few years he could not be consoled. He worked, and a housekeeper came in to help keep house and watch the three surviving children (Nora, Lucy, Robert and Nellie).
Huldah was a loving wife and mother, and kind and loyal to her friends.
