BENJAMIN M. DAWDY
---Benjamin M. Dawdy was born in Knox county, Illinois on the 24th day of March, 1838. He came to Missouri in 1860 and remained only about one year. In 1869 he again came to Adair county and settled on a farm at Illinois Bend, where he resided until his death occurred April 15, 1903.
---Mr. Dawdy was twice married, first in 1861 to Miss Lorinda Davidson of Abbington, Illinois who died August 14, 1893. Three children were born to them, two of whom are still living. In 1896 he married Mrs. May Virden who survives him.
---Marsh Dawdy was by nature, endowed with many fine qualities. He was considerate and charitable in his judgement of others and it was a rare thing with him to speak an unkind word of anyone. He was cordial and affable in his intercourse with his friends and acquaintances and interesting in conversation. Though reticent in the expression of his feelings, his affections were strong and ardent. In the sorrow of his friends he deeply sympathized while his own bereavement tried him solely, leaving wounds that never healed.
---His grandchildren were his constant companions, and with them, he was especially tender and indulgent.
---There has gone from earth one who will be deeply missed by the entire community in which so many years of useful life have been spent. A large number of friends assembled to his late home to pay their parting respects to all that was mortal of one whom they had known but to hold in respect and esteem. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot at La Plata.
