NAME ON CEMETERY STONE: J. J. DAWDY

WEEKLY GRAPHIC, Kirksville, Missouri
January 1, 1892
DIED.
Mr. J.J. Dawdy, of LaPlata, died suddenly Monday morning. His wife had gone to town to do some shopping and had left him sitting by the fire. During her absence B.F. Adams called at the house, having a business appointment with Mr. Dawdy. When he entered the room he found him in bed with the bed clothing drawn up snugly under his chin. He spoke to him, but receiving no answer, laid his hand on his forehead to arouse him, and discovered that he was dead. His death was the result of heart disease with which he had been troubled for some time. The funeral took place from the Christian church, in LaPlata, Wednesday afternoon. The funeral discourse was preached by Eld. J.W. Davis, after which the body was taken in charge by Kirksville Lodge 105, A.F. & A.M. and, escorted by Ely Commandery, Knights Templar, conveyed to the LaPlata cemetery, and laid to rest until the resurrection morn.
