Chester Harry Spence, 78, of the 800 block of 9th St., died Aug. 22, 2002, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
He was the son of the late Clifton H. and Lorraine Ewell Spence. He was a lifelong resident of Princess Anne County and Virginia Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Cook Spence; a daughter, Ellen Dixon of Illinois; three sons, Gary Spence, Clinton Bradshaw and wife Renee, Robert Bradshaw and wife Susan; four sisters, Marjie Hickey and husband Leon, Margaret Harris and husband Jimmy, and Lillian Delores Waterfield, all of Virginia Beach, Amanda Calabreese and husband Sam of Alabama; several grandchildren; and niece and nephews.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was retired from Dominion Yacht sales after 20 years of service.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Princess Anne Road, by the Rev. Richard J. Yates. The family will receive friends at Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. Masonic rites will be accorded at the grave by the Smithfield Union No. 18.
