"She was born Ruby Katherine Hubbard on November 12, 1916 in Coleman, Texas, a daughter of the late A. L. Hubbard and Flora Finley Hubbard. She grew up and attended school in Coleman. On October 10, 1938 she married Robert L. Atkinson in Brownwood and he preceded her in death on January 7, 1982. Ruby moved from Coleman in 1948 to Lubbock and then to Abilene in 1972. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Abilene. She also was the coffee bar operator at WTU from 1974-1979.
"Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Gwenette Atkinson of Lubbock, Texas; one daughter, Peggy Townes of San Marcos, Texas; two sisters, Wilma Threadgill and Dorothy Bohannon both of Abilene, Texas; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren."
