Uncle Elroy was the brother of my grandmother, Ruth Margarite Maurer Zielinski/Carrico.

He was born in Louisville, Jefferson Co., KY while his parents and sister Ruth were living there with his Uncle William Kirchhoff Maurer and family.

Also living in the town at the time was Aunt Lou (Maurer) Johnston and family.

Apparently they'd all moved to Louisville to work in a tinfoil factory, which I can only assume was Reynold's.

Anyway, Grandpa and Uncle Bill's families show up living together in the 1920 KY census; Uncle Elroy is one month old.

Grandpa and Grandma Maurer's family shows up next in the 1930 St. Louis, MO census, where sister Verna has joined them and Elroy is referred to as "Roy."

In the 1940 St. Louis, MO Census, he is listed as George.

Uncle Elroy was in the US Navy during the latter days of WWII. Daddy always has a fit when Mama refers to him as "Uncle Lemay."
