Jenny was born in Maine and traveled West with her Civil War Veteran father to Kansas. She married Joe Kern and had 5 sons. They moved again by covered wagon West to Colorado where they homesteaded, farmed, built houses, ran a store and had a bike shop. Jenny taught school and her sons. Later in life, Jenny and Joe followed 3 of their sons to Southern California. After Joe's death, Jenny, although nearly blind, would travel on the train from California to Colorado by herself to be with family until her death in 1930.
