Long-Time Native Dies In Home Near Childress

Joseph Tillman King, 68, native of Childress, died at his home about one and a half miles west of the city, at 6 p.m Tuesday after an illness of several months.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. L.L. Hill, pastor, and Rev. Joe Allen, pastor of First Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Felton King, John King, J.T. Robinson, Robert Jones, James Jones, George Robinson, LeRoy Reeves and Joe Jones.

The body will lie in state at Newberry Funeral Home until time of services, and the casket will not be opened at the services. Memorials may be made in donations to the heart and cancer funds at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ivy Lambert, Joyce Cheatheam, S.L. Dowis, Newman Reeves, Bill King, Jon Gay, John Robinson, J.D. (i) Hassell, J.B. Johnson Clyde Sherwood, Wesley Kiker, E.L. Wakefield, and C.V. Jones, H.L. Couch, C.R. Dugan, Claude Dudley, H.F. Selman, Leonard King, June Stanford, C.J. Lyons and Roy Swain, Henry Givens, Vernon Hafner, and N.T. Shirley.

Burial will be in Childress cemetery.

Mr. King, a farmer-stockman, was born April 16, 1895, at Chldress, and married Mrs. Susan Joiner May 10, 1930, in Childress. He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Survivors are his widow of the home; one daughter Mrs. Glenn Buckley of Childress; two sons, R.G. Joiner of Amarillo and Sidney E. Joiner of Tokyo, Japan; one brother, Henry W. King of Childress; one sister, Mrs. R.E. Jones of Childress and nine grandchildren.

Final services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at First Methodist Church for Joseph Tillman King, 68-year-old native of Childress.

Officiating were the pastor, Rev. L.L. Hill, and Rev. Joe Allen, pastor of First Baptist Church. Interment was in Childress Cemetery.
