Mrs. H.M. (Eleanor) Jeter, one of the true pioneers of the county, died after a five week illness in the Gaston Avenue Hospital in Dallas at 5pm, Thursday, April 14, 1960, at the age of 72. She was born Feb. 19, 1888 in Childress, TX.
She was a member of the pioneer families of Childress County and was the former Eleanor King. She and Mr. Jeter were married Dec. 15, 1907 in Childress.
Survivors are her husband of Childress; two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Mitchell of Quanah and Mrs. Mollye McNeal of Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. George Robinson of Carey and Mrs. R.E. Jones of Childress; four brothers, John E. King of Dallas, E.J., Joe and Henry of Childress; two grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 in the First Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. C.R. Copeland and Rev. Lennol Hester. Interment was held in the Childress Cemetery under the direction of the Newberry Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James R. Jones, Robert Jones, Ray Jones, Joe Jones, George R. Robinson and J.T. Robinson.

Mrs.Jeter was in Dallas visiting her daughter Mrs. Mollye McNeal when she became ill.

Eleanor Rayford (King) Jeter and her brother Everett Jackson King were twins, children of Joseph Tillman King and Leila Clarissa (Billingsley) King.They were the first twins born in Childress County.
