Mrs. H. L. Mackie Funeral Services At Local Church

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry L. Mackie, 81, were conducted at two-thirty Tuesday afternoon from the Columbia Presbyterian Church with the pastor, the Rev. August Schmitt, Jr., officiating.
Interment was made in the family plot in Columbia Cemetery under direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were C. L. Sims, Price McWhorter, Eagle Matulich, Russell Scafidel, Dr. Charles Thompson, Bill Walker, Henry Counts, E. D. McLean, Jr., and Charles Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers were the Elders of the Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Mackie, a long time, beloved resident of this city, died at 5:45 p. m. Sunday at a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
She was born November 5, 1880, Mary Louise Gilliam, daughter of Joseph and Lena Heckler Gilliam, at Rodney, Jefferson County, where she was reared. She was in early life, a member of the historic Rodney Presbyterian Church.
After her marriage in 1898 she with her family, resided in various points in Louisiana, coming to Columbia from Bogalusa thirty-three years ago. Her husband was an employee of the Rankin Company prior to his death in 1943.
Mrs. Mackie, who made her home at 719 Church Street, was a beloved member of her community and of the local Presbyterian Church which she faithfully attended as long as her health permitted.
She was a member of the Adul Women's Class of the Church School and of the Home Circle of the Women of the Church.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Alonza Berry and Miss Ruth Louise Mackie of Columbia, Mrs. Clyde Blount of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Ed Adams of Montgomery, Ala. And Mrs. Leon Simmons of Hazlehurst; one son, H. L. (Buddy) Mackie of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
