Ola was the fifth child of the 10 born to Walter Lafette Sims and Josie Virene Robertson. Her parents and maternal grandparents had relocated from Sevier County, TN, to Oklahoma, then the Indian Territory, in the early 1900s, where Ola and her siblings were born.

According to Ola's newspaper obit, she is survived by three children, 8 siblings, 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
