Doris Ann Elder, 74, passed away November 13, 1999, at the Valley Health Care Center in Billings, where she had been a resident for many years.
Doris was born in Harlowton on January 5, 1925, the daughter of James F. and Ansof (Strand) Elder. She attended school in the country most of her elementary years but graduated from the eighth grade at the top of her class in Big Timber. She attended high schools in Big Timber, Shawmut, and Bozeman, graduating valedictorian of her class from Bozeman in 1944.
While residing at valley health Care, Doris enjoyed participating in activities at Rainbow House Rehab Center. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, and letter writing. Doris was a member of the Barber Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her mother, Ansof Hanson of Melville; a sister, Nora (Howard) Hanson of Big Timber; a brother, James (Diana) Hanson of Melville; two nephews, Kenny (Kathy) Hanson and Steve (Gloria) Hanson; and two nieces, Carol (Kenny) O'Dell and Sonia (Phil) Stodden.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Hanson in 1984; and step-father, Albert Hanson in 1964.
Services were held Monday, November 15, at the Big Timber Lutheran Church, with Pastor Jim Holmlund officiating. Interment was at Mountain View Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mental Health Foundation (Rainbow House), P.O. Box 219, Billing, MT 59103.
