George Washington, Joseph Lester, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, Ambrose, Enos, and several unnamed daughters were children all born in Allegany Co NY to Rufus and Margaret McIntosh Corey.
Rufus was the son of Joseph and Prudence Parks Corey originally of Luzerne co PA, where Joseph was a survivor of the 03 Jul 1778 Wyoming Valley Massacre.
By 1810 Joseph had removed his family to Steuben/Allegany Co's NY.
Margaret's parentage is unk as she was born in Scotland.
By 1850 he had moved his remaining family to Crawford Co NW PA where abt 1860 Ambrose married Mary Elizabeth Kightlinger, daughter of Thomas and Mahala Kightlinger Kightlinger.
Their marriage was blessed with sons Marvin Jasper and Erwin Corey, born 1861 and 1868.
For the many that may not know the simple name Cory has been at times very difficult to follow due to the varied ways census takers, etc. have written it to from Cory, Corey, Coury, Cora, Corry. I actually do not have the correct version, but lean to Corey being the most common.
Ambrose was seen as an Engineer, of what only he knows, Laborer, and lastly as a Teamster in Warren Co PA.
26 Mar 1900 Ambrose beloved wife dies in Kane PA, and buried in Barnes Cemetery Sheffield PA.
After 1900 Ambrose basically disappears.
Their son Marvin Jasper marries abt 1881 Anne L. McCloskey, daughter of Hugh and Nancy McCloskey. To their marriage was born Maude Ella, Maybelle R., and Clinton Fayette Corey. By 1908 Marvin and family has moved to Kings Co CA where he becomes involved with the drilling of oil.
Their son Ervin apparently never married as found on 1920 census Ohio Herkimer Co NY 52 yrs single.
Many hours have been spent searching high and lo for any sign of Ambrose, until 02 Sep 2014 nothing, not a speck of dust had been found. The same holds true for his brother, Enos, who was found on anc.com records as dying in LA CA 11 Oct 1927, and again which I have done on numerous occasions, simply entered Ambrose search all records anc.com and darned if he doesn't pop up: 1911 Feb 17 Herkimer Co NY Almshouse Ambros Cory 77 years Widower, Last Residence Webb (Herkimer Co NY), Birthplace Almond NY, How long in U.S. 77 years, How long in this State 6 yrs. Occupation: Carpenter, Education: Common School, Religion: Protestant, Physical condition: Imparied Limbs ?? Cause of Dependence: No home, nor money. Birth place of father: Pennsylvania, Occupation: Farmer, Birth place of Mother: Scotland, Is the person able to perform any labor: Very Little. Names and addresses of Relatives or Friends: Has one son, Ervin Cory, Woodhull or ( Fulton County?) Herk. Co, Marvin Cory of _______ nothing written after of.
So finally Ambrose is to be found, yee gads who would have figured him for being in Herkimer Co NY?
Then finding his memorial on FAG...Case closed.
