Brief History of Annie Louise Beers

Annie Louise Beers was born on December 22, 1871. She spent her girlhood days in Pleasant Grove working in her father's general mercantile store, and attending district school. At the age of 15 she was assigned to a class in Sunday School. From 18888 to 1892 she attended Brigham Young Academy in Provo, Utah. School was held in a frame building in the sourth part of Provo near the Denver & Rio Grande depot. Her work in school was so outstanding that Brother Karl G. Maeser invited her to join the teacher's staff.

In 1893 she married Leland Monroe Driggs, a grandson of Parley P. Pratt. They made their home in Driggs, Idaho. She was active in Relief Society and Sunday School work. During World War I she assisted with Red Cross work. Seven children were born to them in Driggs: Afton who married Leon R. Haws; Helen Beatrice who married Clarence H. Weeks, Leland Monroe Jr.; Elizabeth who married Ruthford Post Bosworth; O;ive who married Albert P. Smith; Milton Warren who married Florence Dick; and Mary Louise who married Chas H. White Jr.

Later they moved to Venice, California. Annie Louise's methods of rearing children were most outstanding. She was possessed with high morals standards, seeking ever for the truth. All of those who associated with her were enriched. She died July 3, 1943 at the age of 71, and was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the beautiful Valhalla cemetery in Burbank. California.

To this union were born the following children: Afton Driggs, Helen Beatrice Driggs Weeks, Leland Monroe Driggs, Elizabeth Driggs, Milton Warren Driggs, Olivia Pratt Driggs, unknown and Milton Verlane Driggs.

Her husband died on February 26, 1926 in Venice, California. The 1920 Utah Census lists Annie as head of household. Her husband, who died six years after this census was taken, was not listed. Children listed were: Helen, Elizabeth, Olivia, Milton and Mary (no Afton or Leland).

She died on July 3, 1943 in Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, California.
