Born Municipality Seedorf bei Zeven, the only child of Peter and Margaretha Bredhoft Meier, he immigrated to Lawndale area of IL in 1882. He farmed and became a corn-sheller also.

He married Margaretha Gerken in Mar 1886. They moved to Sibley area and he farmed there until his death. They had eleven children.

After Margaretha died in 1910, he married Phoebe Christina Roesch Martens, a widow from Nebraska on 15 Jan 1914. She brought her four youngest children and the family blended.
Some Meyer children married Martens children.
