6th child of Martin and Margaretha Gerken Meyer, he married his step-sister, Rose Amanda Martens, on 20 Jun 1918. Almost at once he left for the Army in W. W. I as a guard for German prisoners. To France 20 Oct 1918 and safely home 20 Oct 1919.

Martin and Rose had three daughters and a son.
