Born in in the village of Dallau, as Johann Stephan Eifler. Baptized in the Lutheran church in nearby Auerbach. Arrived in Boston , along with the Catholic mother of his first two children, after her village of Rineck was cleared and the residents forced to emigrate. Settled in S. Boston, where he married Johanna and converted to Catholicism at the Holy Trinity German National Church. By 1856 Stephen was a cooper in his own shop on Champney St alongside his sons Gus, Gabriel, Andrew and Joseph. Fathered 7 daughters and 7 sons spanning 22 yrs. Died from a head injury sustained in a fall at the age of 84.
