Mrs. Bonnema Dies at Age 80

Mrs. Tillie Bonnema, 80, a resident of this community 59 years died Monday in the home of her son, Albert Bonnema of Hawarden.

The past three years Mrs. Bonnema had lived at Hull but on September 14, while visiting in the home of her son, she suffered a heart attack.

Mrs. Bonnema was the mother of 11 children, one of whom, Ben died in 1922. Her descendants numbered 102.

Tillie Westra was born March 26, 1871 in the Netherlands and came to America with her parents at the age of nine.

She was united in marriage with Dick Bonnema March 17, 1891, at Orange City, and spent most of her life on a farm about 10 miles northeast of Hawarden. Her husband died April 26, 1937.

Survivors are 10 children, Jerry Bonnema of Rock Rapids, Rev. David Bonnema of Zeeland, Mich., Peter and Albert Bonnema and Mrs. Joe Vos of Hawarden, Mrs. Jake Harmsen of Artesia, Calif., Dick Bonnema of Prinsburg, Minn., Mrs. Peter Rynders of Hull, Mrs. Henry Niezen of Bellflower, Calif., and Henry Bonnema of Ireton; one brother Gerrit Westra of Chicago; 53 grandchildren and 39 great, grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Vos at 1 o'clock this afternoon and at the Christian Reformed church at Lebanon at 1:30. Rev. G. Haan of Hull will officiate.
