R. Lewis Ord Passes After Long Illness

Former Mayor of Nampa Active Member of Local Community



R. Lewis Ord, 48, former Nampa mayor who has been prominent in civic affairs here for many years, died early today at a Boise hospital where he was taken two weeks ago for treatment. He had been in poor health for several months.

Mr. Ord was born March 6, 1898, in Nephi, Utah, and moved with his family to Idaho when he was a young child. The family homesteaded near the site of the present town of Kuna.

He was co-owner of the Johnson-Ord Coal company here until 1939, when he organized the Ord Transfer and Storage concern which he has operated since that time.

Mr. Ord was a member of the Lions club, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, and served one term as mayor of Nampa. He was an active member of the L.D.S. Second Ward church, serving as a member the Bishopric for the past 15 years.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; four daughters, Mrs. Roberta Anderson of Provo, Utah; Mrs. Evona Buckley of Nampa; Ordella and Va Netta Ord, both of Nampa; six brothers, Arthur Ord of Nampa; Eldon, Whetzel, Marion, Lavell and Melvin Ord, all of California; three sisters, Ella Higginbothum, Nampa; Erma Snowberger, Eugene, Ore.; and Wanda Stebbins, Modesto, Calif. and two grandchildren.

Announcement of funeral services is pending word from relatives. The body is at Robinson's funeral home.
