==============================

It would appear from the records that we have of his life that he had trouble maintaining stability. It couldn't have helped that he lost his dad at such a young age, plus was the oldest child in a family without a father. I do know that Wiota ended up in a psychiatric hospital later in life. She may have even died there. My mom remembers her as being very "mentally unbalanced." Wiota and Elmer Piper eventually divorced. Wiota and Elmer's son, Dick, showed signs of instability throughout his life. He couldn't seem to settle into an occupation. He kept coming up with crazy ideas and schemes, and his dad had to keep telling him to come back to earth, so to speak. Dick died young. I think he was in his early 40s.

Marriage discrepancy-

I know you're not related, but have you run across the fact that he married Eda Estella Raper first under the Eliot name and then under the Dwigans name. He also gave 2 different sets of parents for the 2 records. I sort of get the feeling that according to the 1900 census he may have been married before Eda in or about 1889. First wife perhaps not divorced or dead?
