Vella Veronia Smith, 89, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Harrisonburg Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 19, 1915, in Rockingham County near Elkton, and was a daughter of the late John Adams and Lola Nettie Hensley Eppard.

Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Elkton and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Furnace United Methodist Church in Elkton, where she was involved in the Women's Society. On Oct. 19, 1933, she married Everett M. Smith, who preceded her in death in June,1981. Also preceding her in death were nine brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Stella L. Crawford and her husband, Bobby, of Elkton; one grandson, Scott Shifflett and his wife, Teresa, of Elkton; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Scott Shifflett and Dylan Paul Shifflett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at the Furnace United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Plasters and Pastor Marlin Cardin officiating. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8 p.m. at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton or at the home of her daughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the Furnace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 34, Elkton, VA 22827.
