Wm. Cook died Jan. 22,1899,aged 75 years,10 months, and 29 days Birthday Feb. 22,1823
He came to America to look for a brighter future. He was 27 years old when he came to this country. His two brothers came with him.One was named Alf Cook. They got separated and as long as Wm. Cook lived they never knew what had become of each other. My brother George found Alf,on the border between Kansas and Oklahoma. He had fought in the Civil War on the side of the South, the opposite side from what his brother had.Alf Cook died soon after he was found. As well as Ican remember he was a little older than father. He lived longer than my father, though.None of the others of us,except George, ever got to see him.
Wm. Cook was married once in England and had two children. He lost his wife and both children before he came to this country.Wm Cook was a fine man and was very good to his family. He was a church worker and the family had to go to church every Subday.Their church was the Dunkerd religion.
He was married the second time before he went to the Civil War,married sometime about 1860.Mother and father lived in Ohio for a while thenthey came from Ohio to Missouri, and from Misouri to Kansas when Jess was just a baby.Somewhere around 1882 or 1883.I was the only child born in Kansas.Wm. Cook was buried in the Fairview Kansas cemetery close to Yuma.
