He married Amelia Witt 27 Mar 1883 in Sibley. After she died in childbirth, her sister Helena came to care for the children. Bill married Helena. Together the sisters bore him 12 children.
The family farmed land near Garber and then near Strawn. Bill lost an arm in 1910 when a horse kicked him. Bill and Lena moved into Sibley in 1922, living just across the street from two members of Lena's Witt family.
The family were staunch members of St. John's Lutheran church of Sibley.
