Mrs. W. W. Murray 1883-1971
by Charles D. Laseter from the Methodist Advocate

Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Murray, the widow of W.W. Murray who was a member of the Mississippi Conference unitl his death in early 1957, passed away on June 18, 1971, after a few weeks of illness in the Ellisville Hospital. (This is erroneous - she died on the front porch of her home, sitting in a rocking chair, asking for a minute to rest before being taken to the hospital by her son, Orbey Murray/eb)
Mrs. Murray was born Sept, 13, 1883 at Little Rock (Newton County) Miss. and was the daugher of R. Jobe Taylor and Nancy Jane Reynolds Taylor. They moved to Ellisville while she was a very small girl, and she was educated in the Ellisville public schools.
Laura E. Taylor married the Rev. W. W. Murray, a member of the Mississippi Methodist Annual Conference, in Soso, near Ellisville, on May 22, 1904. Her uncle, The Rev. E. J. Taylor, performed the ceremony. At that time, Brother Murray was pastor of the Ellisville Mission.
Mrs. Murray shared all his active and retired ministerial duties and remained to survive him by 14 years. Besides being a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, she joined the Eastern Star organization in 1924 and was a charter member of the Harperville and Chucky chapters. She remained active in her local church and social activities until shortly before her death.
To this union was born the late Rev. William Richard Murray of our Conference, Mrs. Ina Laura Murray Armstrong, Charles G. Murray and Orbey Murray. Other than the two last-mentioned (she was survived by the last three, Ina, Charles and Orbey/eb), she is survived by one brother, Richard J. Taylor of Laurel, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Her body lay in wait in the Thompson Funeral Home in Laurel and the services were held in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church where she had been a member for the last several years and was a great inspiration to its growth and progress. Burial was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The Reverends Larry Creel, Hubert Rutherford, and E. J. Barber officiated.
