SHELBY - Mr. Charles Edward Sheppard, 75, of 110 Delmar Road, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, May 23, 2008.

He was the fourth child of the late John Devaney "J.D." Sheppard and Macie Edith Randall Sheppard. He was a native of Cleveland County.

Charles graduated from Blacksburg High School, the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master in Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia. Professionally, he was a college music teacher, choir director, piano technician and taught piano for 51 years. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church where he directed children and youth choirs, served as a teacher for the Wesley Sunday School Class and was chairman of the church history and archives committee.

He was a co-founder and charter member of Foothills Piano Teachers Forum and a member of The Friendship Force. Music was his lifelong interest. He also enjoyed genealogy, and traveling and camping with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Martha Joan Nix Sheppard; son, George Walter Sheppard and wife, Diana, of Stroudsburg, Pa.; daughter, Katherine "Kate" Hazle Sheppard Katahdin and husband, Don, of Durham; brothers, Donald Sheppard and wife, Bell, and Harrill Sheppard and wife, Letha, all of Blacksburg, S.C., Randy Sheppard and wife, Charlene, of Kings Mountain; sisters, Frances Sheppard Caveny, of Kings Mountain, and Carolyn Sheppard Roberts of Blacksburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Lucelia "Lucie" Rosa Sheppard, Henry Francis Sheppard, Arthur Neil Katahdin and Sonia Faye Katahdin; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Special thanks are extended to both the staff and residents of White Oak Manor and to Hospice for their compassion and care.

Visitation: The family received friends Saturday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Funeral: Sunday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church
