On September 18, 1899, Katharine married Elijah Waring Lynd, a popular young businessman employed by Emery Industries, in what was described in local papers as "a pretty house wedding at the home of her parents on Hickman Avenue" in Cincinnati by the Rev. James D. Stanley. Katharine and EW Lynd lived most of their married life at 3410 Cornell Place in Cincinnati.
Katharine's husband passed away in 1936 after a long illness. Also preceding her in death, besides her parents, were twin sons, John Waring and Thomas Lynd, who tragically died the same day as their birth in 1900, her daughter Margaret Waring Lynd, who died in 1940, sisters Blanche Coleman Hickman, who died in 1943, Constance Bent who died in 1934, and a young brother, Henry John Hickman, who died in 1889.
Katharine died at her residence 4415 Washington Road, West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 81. She had lived in Florida since the early 1940s. Her burial took place in Spring Grove Cemetery on February 2, 1954.
Surviving Katharine were two daughters, Katharine "Kitty" Lynd of West Palm Beach, FL, and Dorothy Ann Staughton Lynd Hoffmann and her husband John F Hoffmann of Atlanta, GA, one granddaugher, Dorothy Ann Hoffmann Black, and two great-grandchildren, Gordon and Kathleen Black.
Rookwood Pottery showing Katharine's unique "KH" mark is now a rare find but much sought after by Rookwood collectors.
Katharine Leslie Hickman Lynd is my husband's maternal Great-Grandmother and he shares a birthday with her.
