John C. "J.C." Bridges
Services for John C. "J.C." Bridges will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 25, 2003, in Holloway Baptist Church with Drs. Jack West and George Higgins officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery, under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.

Mr. Bridges, 76, of Hickory Grove Community, Deville, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Dubuis Hospital in CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Alexandria.

J.C. was born in Pelican, La., but lived most of his life in the Hickory Grove Community. After the death of his parents, he was reared by foster parents, Robert "Bob" Bardwell and Elizabeth O'Neal Bardwell . He was self-employed in the gravel business for many years. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Holloway Baptist Church. After retirement, he loved fishing, traveling and attended many bluegrass festivals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Buford Bridges and Stella Odum Bridges; brothers, Buford Bridges and Ray Levi Bridges; foster parents and one foster brother, Levin Bardwell ; foster sister, Effie Bardwell Jordan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Ernestine Slay Bridges; daughters, Shirley Arlene Nugent and her husband, Travis, Betty Louise Miller and her husband, Stan, all of the Hickory Grove Community; brothers, the Rev. R.T. Bridges of DeQuincy, Clifton W. Bridges of Sulphur, Clifford C. Bridges of Springfield, Mass.; sister, Louise Lyons of Baker; two foster sisters, Winnie Daniels Clayton of Pineville and Audie Bardwell Bridges of DeQuincy.
PawPaw Bridges leaves behind the joys of his life, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They are LaDonna Brown and her husband, Kevin, Patricia "Sissy" Vaughn, Karen J. Nugent, Scott Nugent and his wife, Crystal, Laurie and Trey Miller, Skyler, Tanner and Tayler Brown, Kaylea and Devin Vaughn, Cody Lane Nugent. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, a host of beloved family members and wonderful friends.
Viewing will be from 3 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. His body will be brought to the church at 9 a.m. Friday.
Monetary gifts may be given to the Hickory Grove Cemetery or to the Holloway Baptist Church Youth Fund.
Pallbearers will be Scott Nugent, Kevin Brown, Edwin Belgard, Herbert Bridges, John Bridges, Wesley Bridges, Robert Slay, Douglas Nugent and David Nugent.
Honorary pallbearers include Trey Miller, Skyler and Tanner Brown, Devin Vaughn, Cody Nugent, Frank Jordan and Donnie Daniels, Virgil Hickman and all his "Bluegrass Buddies"
