Louise Anna Sprencel was was born in Valparaiso, IN, the great great great granddaughter of Captain Antoine Paulin (1727-1816), the French-born commander of the second Canadian Regiment under Colonel Moses Hazan. She was the great great granddaughter of Steven Dumas and Mary Paulin Dumas, the great granddaughter of Edward and Emily Dumas, the granddaughter of David Noel and Julia Noel Noel (Noel was also her maiden name) and the daughter of Louis Paul Sprencel and Emma Noel Sprencel. Her other grandparents married in Chicago in 1856: Joseph X. Sprenzel (the spelling was later changed) and Theresia (Echtler) Sprencel. Her survivors included 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
