James Edward Theroux, 84, passed away August 4 in Gainesville, FL. Cremation followed.

Jim was born November 20, 1931, in Lansing, Michigan, to Professor Frank R. and Louise A. Sprencel Theroux. He was the youngest of seven children, all of whom graduated from Michigan State University (MSU). After college he was in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1956.

His employment career began at the Budd Company in Detroit, where he met and married Mary Ann (Marti) Black. He was Director of Purchasing at St. Lawrence Hospital and worked in Purchasing at MSU. In 1984 he became Director of Purchasing at the University of Florida. He retired as Director of Purchasing for Sarasota County Government in 1997.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard James, his parents, brothers Louis, Robert and Frank, and sister, Frances Theroux Kush.

He is survived by wife Marti; grandchildren Ashley Hester, Nicholas Vandyken and Jessie Malone; great-grandchildren Brook Hester and Jade Malone; and brothers Paul of Clearwater, FL, and Charles, of Lansing, MI.

A Memorial Service in East Lansing, MI, will be held at a later date.
