Letta Jane Maguire Baker, age 97, of Big Rapids, went home to be with her Lord, Sunday, October 14, 2007. She was born August 7, 1910, in Hastings, to Dan and Alice (Ecewen) Lake. When she was a young girl her family moved to the Rodney area and she later attended the former Big Rapids High School. On August 30, 1926 she married Frank Maguire and they made their home in the Big Rapids area where they raised their sons. Shortly after Mr. Maguire passed away in 1954, Letta moved to Mt.Pleasant where she enjoyed cooking for seniors for a number of years. She met and married Rua Baker of Mt. Pleasant who also preceded her in death. Later she moved with her son Dan Maguire to Weston, where she enjoyed attending the Weston Baptist Church. In 2000 Letta moved back to Big Rapids where she became a resident for Altercare. She spent several hours reading to her family, listening to the radio, crocheting and making crafts.
Letta is survived by five sons; Frank (Betty) Maguire of Cedar Springs, Dan Maguire of Greenville, Archie Maguire of Big Rapids, Robert (Marilyn) Maguire Sr. of Big Rapids, and Richard (Diann) Maguire of Six Lakes, One brother; Forrest Lake of Fla., nineteen grandchildren, many great, great-great and great-great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends at Altercare.
Letta was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, four sisters, one brother and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Letta will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Dan Maguire officiating.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial donations in Letta's name may be given to the choice of the donor.
