Archie D. Maguire, age 83 of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2013. He went home to be with the Lord on his birthday, with his beloved family at his side.
Archie was born September 26, 1930 in Big Rapids the son of Frank and Letta (Lake) Maguire. He grew up working on his grandparent's family farm. Archie was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He married JoAnne L. Ensing on September 10, 1952 in Big Rapids where they made their home. Archie worked in the gas and oil fields, drilling wells, fighting fires and driving truck; he was employed by Allied. He also worked, for many years, with his in-laws at the "West M20 Emporium" in Big Rapids.
Archie was a life member of the American Legion Post #98 of Big Rapids and a life member of V.F.W. Post #1503.
He is survived by his loving family; son Dennis Maguire of West Virginia, daughter, Carol McHugh of Big Rapids; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; four brothers, Frank (Betty) Maguire of Cedar Springs, Dan Maguire of Greenville, Richard (Diane) Maguire of Six Lakes, Robert (Marilyn) Maguire of Big Rapids; many nieces and nephews.
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, his wife JoAnne on June 23, 1994, a son David Maguire and an infant daughter, Lisa Maguire.
Funeral services will take place 2:30 p.m. Monday, September 30th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Scott Davidson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. (beginning at 1:30 p.m.) Burial will be a Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids.
