[Lakeview- Richard “Dick” Paul Maguire, Age 85, of Lakeview, passed away at Spectrum Health-United Memorial Greenville on February 27, 2018. Richard was born on January 27, 1933 in Big Rapids, to Frank E. and Letta Jane (Lake) Maguire. He was raised in Big Rapids and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951. On June 21, 1958, he married Diann Sue Badge at Lakeview Ashbury Methodist Church. Richard worked at a Pickle Plant for six years, Ore Ida for 10 years, Brown Transport for two years and Jackson Products for two years. Richard also served as a Post Office Clerk where he covered all post office locations that needed help; Sumner, Cedar Lake, Greenville and Lakeview. He eventually became Post Master at Six Lakes, retiring after 15 years. Richard served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 on a Seagoing “Tugg” where he was called Mac then attended some classes at Michigan State University. He enjoyed serving his community, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, woodworking crafts. He was a member of the Six Lakes Lions Club where he helped during Dizzy Days, fruit sale and the Easter egg hunt. Richard’s proudest moment was being elected District 11 E1 Governor of the Lions Club from 1995 to 1996. His walk for the Lions Club from M-46 to Edmore raised money that was donated to Welcome Home for the Blind every year.
Richard will be missed by his wife Diann, children Jeff (Sue) Maguire of Edmore, Bruce (Mary) Maguire of Morley, Peggy (Mark) Olsson of Lakeview, Greg Maguire of Stanton; eight grandchildren, Angela, Renee, Ashley, Ricky, Patty, Brooke, Makenna, and Amber; five great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Alex, Hadley, Sam and Kolton; two brothers, Dan Maguire of Greenville and Bob (Marilyn) Maguire of Big Rapids. Also surviving are Bob (Noreen) Badge of Trufant, Carol Cogswell of Six Lakes, Ruth (Clare) Johnston of Sand Lake and a special niece Jan Bogardus.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Letta Maguire, parents-in-law George (Hattie) Badge, two brothers Frank and Archie Maguire, and siblings-in-law Arlene Kohn, Marie Beemer, Rose Beemer, Virginia Maguire, Betty Beemer, Peggy Cogswell and Don Badge.
Services for Richard will be held at Brigham Chapel-Six Lakes on Saturday March 3, 2018 at 11 AM with Dave England officiating. The family will greet friends Friday March 2, 2018 from 4-8PM at the Six Lakes Chapel. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery-Six Lakes. A luncheon will follow.]
