OBITUARY ~~~

John W. Bogart was born in Indiana on March 7, 1834, and died at his home in Elmira, Oregon, Feb. 26th, 1910.

Mr. Bogart moved with his parents to Van Buren County, Iowa when he was but two years of age. The Bogart family emigrated to Oregon in 1852, settling in Marion County only one year, moving to Lane County in '53. The old Bogart home is located 2 ½ miles northwest of Eugene on the Coburg road. Mr. Bogart was married to Miss Catherine Allen in March 7, 1861. Mr. and Mrs. Bogart then made their home in Lane County until 1887 when the moved to Lincoln County, Washington. They settled in the Red Wine Canyon of the same county in 1890. Due to Mr. Bogart's failing health the Washington home was sold in 1906, and for three years he and his wife traveled and visited with their children. They spent one winter in Arizona, at Grants Pass, Oregon and one winter at Creston, Washington. Last spring they came to Elmira, Oregon, where they built for themselves a beautiful home. The work on their home was hardly completed when Mr. Bogart's health began to fail very rapidly. He was taken sick about the first of November and early December the disease turned to dropsy from the effects of which he passed away Saturday morning, February 26th at 8 o'clock.

Mr. and Mrs. Bogart both became members of the Christian Church in 1871. Their faith in God and in his son Jesus Christ is know to all who have known them. Mr. Bogart's faith steadily grew stronger as the disease tightened its grasp and there were no happier moments in his last days than when he could hear the signing of Gospel Hymns and hear the name of his Heavenly Father breathed in fervent prayer. He longed to go to that "Home of the Soul: and we should not mourn because the most noble wish of all mankind has been answered for him.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his faithful wife and helpmate, three brothers and one sister and five children.

The children are Mrs. T.A. Fountain of Elmira, Oregon; Mrs. T. Cook, of Grants Pass, Oregon; W.G. Bogart and Mrs. Daniel Worby of Creston, Washington, and Mrs. J.H. Verfurth of Bisbee, Arizona.

Besides his own family, Mr. Bogart leaves innumerable friends in region and Washington who join in extending sincerest sympathy to his wife and relatives in their sad hour of affliction.

The funeral services were conducted from the Christian Church of Elmira, the remains being interred at the Inman cemetery. G. Whipple, pastor of the church conducted the service.
