A resident of Baton Rouge for 50 years, he died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was a professor of education and director of student teaching at LSU before his retirement in 1976. He continued his work on the board for accreditation of Louisiana schools for several years after he retired. Born in Winnfield on May 6, 1916, to Arthur Davis Eglin and Maude Baker Eglin, he was the youngest of their nine children. He graduated from high school in Grayson, attended Northeast College in Monroe and then LSU, where he earned both bachelor of arts and master's degrees. He obtained a doctorate in the field of education at Peabody College, now a part of Vanderbilt University. While serving in the Air Force during World War II, he married Dorothy Hudson Bridger of Columbia. Business and family interests kept them close to that area, where they have maintained her parent's home.

Talented in many ways, he used those gifts to bring joy, beauty and comfort to others.He was a member of University United Methodist Church.

Visiting will be 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Monday at Riser Funeral Home, Columbia. Funeral services will be held in Columbia at the United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Ken Irby of University United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge. Visiting at the Bridger home will follow the burial at the Columbia Cemetery.
