Charles A. Piper, 70, Pittsburgh, died Sunday after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Altoona.

He was the loving father of Amy Rowan and Philip, Christopher and Heather Piper; loving fiance of Carolyn Micher; grandfather of Aiden Winward-Green; and brother of Walter Piper, Virginia Chipperfield, Martie Gilbert, Carl Piper and Margret Hunter. He also is survived by nieces and nephews.

Charles was a referee in football and basketball for area high schools and a teacher in the Keystone Oaks School District for 36 years. He enjoyed golfing, wood carving and singing.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011.
