Clarine E. Smith died on Sunday (Feb. 13, 2011) at Farmer City Rehabilitation Center, Farmer City, with her beloved family at her side.
Clarine was born on Jan. 6, 1924, in Glasgow, Ky., to Millard and Pearl Louella Chapman. She married Louis A. Smith on April 7, 1944, in Glasgow. He preceded her in death on July 28, 2001.
Others who preceded her include two sons, Jerry Lee (Jan) Smith and Ronnie Smith; her parents, Millard and Pearl Chapman; one brother, Russell (Lavern) Chapman; three half brothers; two half sisters; and one son-in-law, Roy Bittinger.
She is survived by one brother, Clifton (Bonnie) Chapman of Louisville, Ky.; her children, Betty Bittinger of Champaign, Becky (Keith) Sigwerth of Mahomet; daughter-in-law, Jan Smith of Mahomet; her grandchildren, Doug Bittinger of Champaign, Cherilynn (Langon III) Evans of Cerro Gordo, Clayton Smith of Mahomet, Michelle (Eric) Bonham of Mahomet, Katie Smith of Chatham and Amber Sigwerth of Denver, Colo.; and her great-grandchildren, Blake and Cody Evans of Cerro Gordo, Robert and Mackenzie Bonham of Mahomet and Xavier and Noah Sigwerth of Denver, Colo.
Clarine was a longtime resident of Mahomet, living in the village for over 65 years. She enjoyed needlepoint, garage sales, reading, spending time outdoors and swinging on her porch swing. Her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and with her beloved dog, Toby.
