Parnell Morgan
January 29, 1928 - January 30, 2011

Parnell Morgan, 83, of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida following a sudden illness.

A native of Blackshear, Georgia, he was raised and spent his early years in Waycross, Ga., before moving to Fernandina Beach, Florida where he has lived for the past fifty-eight years. Mr. Morgan served in the United States Army immediately following World War II being stationed in Japan where he worked as an ambulance driver before his honorable discharge. Following his military service he began working for Container Corp. of America in Fernandina where he worked as a recovery boiler operator with forty-five years of service before his retirement.

For many years he enjoyed fishing and was an avid wrestling fan always watching on television and attending wrestling matches whenever possible. In addition to his long dedication to the paper mill many who knew him locally recall his many years of working, alongside his wife Emily, assembling and distributing the Florida Times-Union newspapers throughout the Fernandina Beach, Nassauville and Yulee areas. He was a born again Christian, was a lifelong member of the Baptist faith, and a man who's word was his bond, who actually lived what he believed.

He was proceeded in death by his wife of over ten years, Emily Irene (Manahan) Hadsock Morgan in May 2005.

His survivors include his four sons, Larry Parnell Morgan, Robert O. Hadsock, Joe and Frank Mizell, three daughters, Vicki Coggans, Florence Smiley (Lindale) and Wanda Sue, one brother, Bill W. Morgan and one sister, Bobbie Buck. He is also survived by his previous wife, Nadine Morgan, by eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 PM until 7 PM at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley-Heard Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Brown pastor of Five Points Baptist Church in Fernandina officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors following the committal service at 3 PM in the Ramah Baptist Church Cemetery in Blackshear, Ga.

The family is gratefully accepting floral gifts or you may send memorial donations to the Nassau Humane Society, 671 Airport Road, Fernandina Beach, Fla. 32034.
