Hannah Finch, a daughter of Hannah and Jesse Finch, was born in New Jersey, and "came to Belmont county [Ohio] with her parents."

Hannah Finch married John Bell in 1803 in Belmont County. The couple had ten children:

Born in Belmont County—

• Robert Bell
• Jesse Bell
• Anna Bell Knott
• John Bell, junior
• Hannah Bell Knott
• Enoch M. Bell
• David S. Bell

Born in Blooming Grove Township, Richland County, Ohio, where John Bell entered land in 1815—

• Nathaniel Finch Bell
• Stephen F. Bell
• Joseph Bell (died in infancy)

"In 1839 the [Bell] family moved into Ripley township, Huron county [Ohio], where Mrs. Bell died in 1856." (Ripley Township is immediately northwest of Blooming Grove Township.)

(Bio. of David S. Bell in: A. J. Baughman, History of Huron County, Ohio: its progress and development, with biographical sketches of prominent citizens of the county (Chicago: S. J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1909), pp. 402-03.)

Notes

Date of birth calculated from headstone inscription. The 1850 census showed her to be age 67, thus born about 1783. There is conflicting information regarding Hannah's place of birth. Although her son's bio. reports Rhode Island, Hannah was more likely born in New Jersey.

Jesse Finch of Belmont County, Ohio (died in 1829), in his will left a tract of land in that county: the northwest corner of Township 6 North, Range 3 West, Section 18—172 acres (less 20 acres Jesse Finch sold to Zephaniah Bell). His three children—Nathaniel Finch, Hannah wife of John Bell, and Ann wife of Peter Maring—were each to receive a quarter of the tract; the remaining quarter jointly to his six grandchildren: Jesse Finch, Jr., Ann wife of Benjamin Brotherton, John Finch, William Finch, Hannah Finch, and Nathaniel Finch. Jane Finch was the guardian of the latter four grandchildren, who were minors. (Jane Finch, petition to sell land, March 1830, Belmont County, Common Pleas Court Records, 1828-32 in: Gateway to the West, vol. 1, Ruth Bowers and Anita Short, eds. (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1989), p. 109.) Jane Finch was the widow of Jesse Finch, junior. The grandson "Jesse Finch, Jr." above would now be called Jesse Finch, III.

1850 U.S. Census, Ripley Twp., Huron Co., Ohio; dwellings 3038-3039, families 3103-3105, lines 2-13, p. 219 (printed), p. 438 (written), 12 Nov 1850.
