Monroe was the son of Rev. Francis M. & Isabella S A "Sis" (Priestley) Bowman. On February 7, 1892, he was married to Minnie Belle Martin.

Monroe B. Bowman is married and has one child. He is living on a fine farm of his own near Taborville, Missouri. (This was their daughter, Stella Frances.

In June 1900 Monroe and Minnie lived in Speedwell, St. Clair, MO with two daughters, Stella & Ada. A son Monroe "Bentley" was born in 1902.

In April 1910 they lived in El Paso, TX, where Monroe worked in a Tinner shop. The census indicated that Minnie had given birth to six children, but only three were still living.

In January 1920 they lived in Hondale, Luna Co, NM, where they had farm. All three children were still home. Minnie died in 1921. In April 1930 Monroe's daughter, Stella, lived with him in Deming, NM.

Monroe died on September 1, 1939. His obituary follows:
"Monroe Bentley Bowman
Following a long illness, Monroe Bentley Bowman, Dr., aged 79, died, September 1 at his home here. Deceased was born in Benton county, Missouri, had resided in Deming for the past 15 years.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Mahoney chapel, the Rev. L.L. Thurston officiating, and interment was in Mountain View cemetery.

Surviving are two daughters, Stella F. Bowman and Ada Bowman White, and one son, Bentley Bowman, Jr., all of Deming; four brothers and one sister who reside outside of New Mexico."
