Oliver was number four out of Rev. Francis & Isabella (Priestley)Bowman's children.

He married Alberta Fairbanks in Raton, Colfax Co, NM on July 16, 1891. News about their marriage was published in The Newton County News, a Newtonia, MO newspaper published by the Mize sisters, on Aug. 20, 1891: "Mr. Oliver S. Bowman and Miss Alberta Fairbanks were married on July 16th at Raton, New Mexico. They left at once for Provo, Utah, on their wedding tour. Mr. Bowman will be remembered by Newtonia people as a son of Elder Bowman."
