Northwest Blade, Eureka, SD, Feb. 20, 1980 —

Funeral services for William C. Sayler, 89, retired farmer and resident of the Lutheran Home in Eureka, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16 at the United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peter G. Ackerman, Eureka, officiated.

Organist was Mrs. Leslie Rau. Special music was furnished by the Methodist Mens Chorus.

Mr. Sayler passed away at the Eureka Hospital Wednesday, February 13 following an illness of about six weeks.

Born on September 3, 1890 at Venturia, ND, he was a son of Christian and Amelia (Ganske) Sayler. His first marriage took place on November 23, 1916 to Helen Renz at Artas, SD. She died Dec. 24, 1947. On November 8, 1953 he was married to Mrs. Alice (Dohrman) Humann at Eureka, SD. His second wife died May 1, 1978. He made his home in Eureka until entering the Lutheran Home as a resident on December 28, 1979.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Eureka.

Survivors include one son, Melvin Sayler, Sidney, NE; three daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Edna) Waldroop, Detroit, MI, Mrs. Clinton (Irene) Lytle, Woodburn, OR, and Mrs. Wesley (Violet) Sauer, Denver, CO; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Lehr, Roscoe, SD and Mrs. Christ (Ann) Guthjar, Denver, CO; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, one daughter, one granddaughter and two brothers.

Casket-bearers were Ted Kost, William Merkel, Jacob Rieger, Norman Stickelmeyer, Theo. Joachim and Ruben F. Eberhart.

Burial was in the Roscoe Cemetery, Roscoe, SD with Straubs Funeral Home of Eureka in charge of arrangements.
