Funeral services for Joseph A. Leftwich, 79, who died at his home near Baxter, Saturday night, were held at the residence Monday, conducted by the Rev. Dow Ensor of Cookeville, assisted by the Rev. John O. Ensor, of Donelson, and the Rev. O. P. Gentry, of Monterey.
Members of the Pekin Lodge, F and A.M. had charge of the burial rites at the Smellage Cemetery near Boma. 50 Masons from Baxter, Cookeville, and Buffalo Valley participated in the rites, with W. A. Ellis acting as worshipful master.
Mr. Leftwich was a successful farmer and highly esteemed citizen of the 11th Civil District of this county most of his life, but moved to Baxter a few years ago when ill health overtook him. He was seriously injured a few months ago when he fell on the stairs at his home.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Gentry Leftwich; 6 sons, J. S. and Ernest Leftwich of Nashville; Solon Leftwich of Monterey, Leonard Leftwich of Detroit, MI; Arden Leftwich of Silver Point, and Theron Leftwich of Baxter; and 3 daughters, Mrs. J. H. Medley of Silver Point; Mrs. Fred Judd and Mrs. J. P. Bartlett of Baxter.
